X-Men: Apocalypse (Movie-Review)

X-Men: Apocalypse
Poster by Fox

Last week I went to see X-Men: Apocalypse with a friend and his wife. We watched it in 3D, IMAX in English. When I spend a lot of money for a movie ticket I want it to be worth it and not just be a bigger screen and more people.

I will make this Review as Spoiler free as possible except the things that can be figured out by looking at the poster alone. Because of this I will not write a summary about the content but I will say that this movie shows the young X-Men we already know from the other movies as teenagers/young adults.

As you probably already saw, I did a Marvel Cinematic Universe Challenge recently and because of that I was kind of sad that X-Men: Apocalypse is not yet part of it. Let’s hope this will change in the future.  As it was not part of the Universe (and therefor the MCU Challenge) I have not seen all of the previous movies and probably missed out on some small things but I did not feel as if I was confused or something like that because of it.

Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) was the character the movie focussed on which I enjoyed. We still don’t have enough strong female leads in Movies and TV-Shows. Also I am a big fan of Jennifer Lawrence. We also got to find out the beginnings of Storm which kicked butts too (side note: that haircut is ace!).

But one of my favourite characters in X-Men: Apocalypse has to be Quicksilver. The special effects to make him run that fast were great and his behaviour was just hilarious. I couldn’t get enough of it, sadly he did not have a lot of screen time in the movie.

Overall I enjoyed X-Men: Apocalypse a lot. It was fast paced (kind of), with great special effects, nice costumes and it was fun to watch. I recommend it but maybe it would be a good idea to watch the other movies first to fully enjoy the experience.
