Luke Cage (TV-Show Review)

Luke Cage is a Netflix Original series that is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It premiered on September 30th, 2016.

Introduction of Luke Cage:

Luke Cage first appeared in Jessica Jones as a friend of Jessica back when he lived in Hell’s Kitchen. Since then he has moved back home to Harlem where he now works in Pop’s Barber Shop sweeping the floors and in Harlem’s Paradise, which is a Night Club, as a dishwasher. His special ability is bullet proof skin and superhuman strength. He just wants to live his life in peace but the bad guys have other plans for Harlem and things start to go down…

Review:

In terms of production quality and overall style, Luke Cage is very similar to Daredevil and Jessica Jones. All of them are Netflix Original series and very well made. Luke Cage has as well as the others episodes of about 45 minutes. One difference I saw between Luke Cage and the other two series was, that the story moved a bit faster. It didn’t feel like it took ages for anything to happen.

A reason for this could be the choice of actors. Don’t get me wrong, the actors in the other two shows where very well cast too but this time there were especially many that I liked. They had several actors who I wanted to listen to all day when they were talking. Most of them were bad guys – and looking sharp. This brought me in the difficult situation, that I, for the first time probably, was rooting for bad guys. In addition, a lot of people died when I didn’t expect them to. Some of them made me surprisingly sad. In return the deaths were mostly not as graphic as some of the ones in Daredevil or Jessica Jones. (Let me just say: King Pin and the car door!)

It was a nice change to see another part of New York which is normally not the focus of TV-Shows. As parts of it took place in a Night Club, there was plenty of opportunity for good music.

If you like the Marvel Cinematic Universe but are looking for a break from the usual, you should give Luke Cage a chance.

Who is your favourite Character of Luke Cage? Is it a bad guy?
